The old skool Parisian houses kept it old skool-style by sending out very lady-like looks – with contemporary touches, mais naturellement!
-Chloe’s new designer, Paulo Melim Andersson, had huge wedges to fill following the incredible Phoebe Philo’s footsteps. He did a decent job. Moving the house away from the signature frilly, girly look Philo instituted, Andersson showed a “funny-angry” girl – one who’s “clean, but not minimal.” As a result, he showed lots of black and orange, lots of bold prints, and lots of paillettes and crystal detailing. Funny-angry girls around the world will eat this shit up!
-Alber Elbaz presented another stunning show for Lanvin featuring lots of pink, purple and black. Dresses came in shifts with delicate ties or ruffles on the back, or with fantastically accentuated shoulders. Read the rest of this entry »
Wow! Wow! Wow!!! John Galliano got the couture shows off to an explosive start with a gorgeous, glamorous, and of course dramatic collection for Christian Dior. Galliano showed 45 spectacular looks which were inspired by a recent trip he took to Japan and Madame Butterfly’s Cio-Cio San. He pulled all the punches from obis, kimonos, and Asian-inspired prints, to kabuki-style makeup and shellacked geisha-like hairstyles on the models adorned with mini Japanese lanterns, flowers and folding fans. The most breathtaking reference to Japanese culture came from his inspiration by origami, and the intricate, complicated and almost magical folds of the fabrics. Read the rest of this entry »
-John Galliano is on an serious roll! After showing an incredible couture collection, boyfriend still managed to churn out eye-popping shows for Dior and his own line.
-Christian Dior was all about 1940’s silhouettes, luxury and glamorama. Galliano sent out one stunning party dress after another in hot and pale pinks, coral, grey, pea green, royal blue, eggplant and black. They were all absolutely gorgeous!
-John Galliano’s signature collection was just as fab (pictured)! The show highlighted 1920’s shapes and was all about high drama and romance. It was ruffly, puffy, colorful, ornate and WOW! The presentation was very salon-like and the models’ faces were plastered with so much Edward Gorey/Edward Scissorhands-esque make-up, they were practically unrecognizable. Oh, real drama! -Jean Paul Gaultier presented a rather subdued and somewhat tomboyish collection that featured princely uniforms (as in charming, not the wee, purple one) complete with sashes, leather and velvet jodhpurs (who really wears these unflattering pants – even if you are riding a horse?), severely cut jackets and coats with exaggerated epaulets and other military touches. His vixeny evening dresses were great (see right) but the eastern-inspired ones were a bit too over the top in that JPG let’s-go-wild-with-ethnic-influences sort of way. Read the rest of this entry »
-Sienna skank Miller and her designer sister, Savannah, debuted their new clothing line Twenty8Twelve atop the Gramercy Park hotel Thursday night. The line, named for Sienna’s birthday – not that she’s self-involved or anything – consists of 80 pieces and was pretentiously titled “An Anthology of Rebellion.” The sisters wore unspectacular pieces from the collection to the soiree. Ubiquitous party-girl, Agyness Deyn (right), attended looking impossibly cool and gorgeous in a white, vintage, fringy flapper dress toughened up with black boots. Unlike her sibling, Savannah possesses true fashion cred being a graduate of Central Saint Martin’s and having worked for Alexander McQueen.
-I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I don’t really care for Sienna. What with her fucking anybody she thinks will boost her “acting” career and her annoying boho-shit style. So needless to say, I was amused by this tidbit from Vogue UK claiming that Sienna will be co-starring in an upcoming production of A Woman Of No Importance along with Jessica Biel. According to a source the Kate/Edie wannabe is feeling rather insecure. “Sienna is worried because Jessica is so stunning and in the past has been voted the sexiest woman alive… Sienna has been asking guys whether they think Jessica has the looks edge over her.” Cause you know, it’s not like she’s self-involved or anything.
-And big news for the lil’ man was announced today. Prada is selling 100% of Azzedine Alaia’s company back to him. Alaia’s skin-tight, strappy, bandage dresses have been incredibly influential and popular the past couple of seasons and according to WWD, the brand “posted sales growth of about 30 percent” or about $16.63 million this past year. The Prada Group will continue to produce his footwear and leather goods.
